Textures and Content-During this lesson you will learn to apply textures as well as upload and download graphics to your model.

At this point you need to consider the work you did in English lessons on the "A Room as a Character's Mind" activity. You should have your drawings and descriptions with you for all lessons.


Select the Paint Bucket tool.

You can apply translucent colours to your walls, windows etc..which allow you to see through to the interior.

The push/pull tool combined with translucent colours can be used to create a window which is recessed or protruding,



3D Warehouse

Sketch up Allows you to add your own content as well as that created by others to your models. These may include plants, furniture, vehicles etc...
Google maintains a huge gallery of 3d models that can be downloaded to your models.

Choose the item you are looking for and click Download Model

Choose Load into Model. You will need to wait and a meter will show you the progress.


You can use components included in SketchUp to decorate and add items to your model. You should however also design and build one item on your own for the model.

Go to and click the icon for the 3D Warehouse.

Search out the component you are looking for by typing in its name. If at first you don't succeed try a synonym or a more general name for what you are looking for.

It will look a bit strange when it first imports.

Finally drag it to the location you have chosen for it on your model and click off.

To resize an object click on it (An option to rotate it will appear.) Go to Tools and choose the Scale option or use the keyboard short cut.

You can also use the following option in the menu bar.

You can then resize as well as squash and expand the object.


Use the Move option to place the object where you want it to go.


Copy and Paste

If you would like multiple copies of a model you can select, copy and paste it.


Model sizes can also be altered by changing the length dimensions

Move Tool and Duplicating

You can use the Move Tool to create copies of your model.



You can also import your own files by choosing the format from the list.

You can create a video walk through of your model by using the scenes option in the windows menu.

It works very much like a stop motion video, so you need to change positions little by little choosing to add each scene using the

Click on create scene.

Once you have enough scenes (at least 20) and have moved through enough of your model to really show it off, you will need to export it as a Quicktime movie.

Choose a location.


Select Quicktime Movie

Select Options and Expert

Chose Best Quality and increase the Width and Height.


Poor Quality

The following is a video that was rendered at a smaller size and lower quality. Please export using the settings above to ensure your video is of higher quality.

Place a copy in the correct folder in DC3.

Make sure you place it in the correct folder, with your name on it please.

Enjoy and share your movie. If you would like to edit it further you can now import your movie to iMovie and add titles, narration and music to it, prior to placing a copy in the folder in DC3/
